Architecture student builds favourite pub with LEGO bricks

A Strathclyde University architecture student has built his favourite pub from LEGO bricks as part of his degree.

Josh Burnett was tasked with building a Scottish building in a unique way as part of the first year of his architecture degree at Strathclyde University. The Daily Record reports that he opted for his favourite pub, The John Fairweather, using LEGO elements as his medium.

The pub is named for the architect who built the original cinema that it was converted from, the newspaper reports.

John Fairweather was the premiere cinema designer in Europe throughout the 1920s and was responsible for iconic picture houses all over Scotland.

As well as the Cambuslang Savoy, Fairweather designed for Green’s and the Rio in Rutherglen and Gateside School in Cambuslang.

The Main Street pub – named in honour of the Glasgow-born architect – opened two years ago and is now run by manager Rob Hughes.

Burnett showed his model to the pub staff who were impressed, having given him tours of the venue during the design phase so that the replica could be just right.
