Hull city centre’s LEGO daffodils prove wildly popular
Last week, an installation of 1,700 LEGO daffodils sprung up in Hull city centre. Yesterday, that installation was torn down – and the daffodils given away to members of the public, who queued for hours to take home a piece of the display.
In fact, the daffodils – which were available on a first-come, first-served basis – were all claimed within two hours, according to the Hull Daily Mail, by hundreds of people from as far and wide as Grimsby. To qualify for a daffodil, eager LEGO fans had to make a donation to the Lord Mayor’s charities, MIND and Hull Citizens Advice Bureau.
The daffodils were constructed in the newly opened King Edward Square, as part of Hull’s campaign for the UK City of Culture 2017.

Author Profile
- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
