75184 Star Wars: Sabine Wren

Sabine is the first of what, if past years are any indication, will be between five and eight Star Wars minifigures. It appears that the show Rebels will have a strong presence in this year’s calendar. LEGO Star Wars fans will likely welcome this entry as Sabine’s figure has appeared in past offerings but few that were inexpensive. Even if fans have past versions of her, the Mandalorian torso and multi-coloured hair element are richly detailed and eminently useful; a collection can never have too many of them.

60155 City: Young snowboarder

Kids doing winter sports is a motif of LEGO City calendars. Last year it was hockey and this year the slopes are being conquered by an intrepid young snowboarder. The snowboard component is a welcome inclusion. While they were prolific in the Friends theme this year, folks who don’t collect that line have had far fewer chances to add the piece to their collections. Whether one is looking to MOC a winter sports equipment store, or do a scene for the upcoming Winter Olympics, both the helmet and snowboard are worth having.

41326 Friends: Snowmobile

It was the consensus among the Brick Fanatics staff that was a snowmobile, but it also illustrates one of the problems with Friends calendars for AFOLs. The clip indicates we will be getting more models to attach to this, potentially a train of cars is in our future, but the snowmobile is so basic that it could never find a place in an AFOL display. Furthermore, aside from the handle and skis, every piece is basic or in Friends only colours. My daughters loved playing with it, and that is after all the point, but I myself could easily pass on this entrant.
