Nick’s Corner 18/4

Another Sunday evening is upon us, so here I am writing another Nick’s Corner ready for tomorrow morning. But as you may have noticed there’s no MOC in the title this week that’s because I’m going to be writing about another side to my love of Lego one which also allows me to enjoy a couple of my other hobbies which are photography and walking. It’s something I really enjoy and anybody can have a go at, all you need is a few minifigures, a camera and in my case a very understanding wife. I’m not really sure if it has a term so I’m going to call it “Lego Thing’s Outdoors” in a nutshell it’s basically taking macro photo’s of Minifigures and/or Lego in outdoor locations. I generally just stick to minifigures as they are easier to get back in your pocket when a non-afol comes along and starts wondering what your doing.

There’s a great deal of people who use this medium many of whom can be seen on such sites as Instagram some of my favourites on here are Shelly Corbett aka @xxSJC and Boris Vanrillaer @_ME2_ aka who along with @Avanaut aka Vesa Lehtimaki (Also a favourite) formed a creative collective known as stuckinplastic http://www.stuckinplastic.com/  to showcase this medium and share ideas I do really enjoy this style of photography and results I get.I do plan ahead and take what figures and accessories I think will blend into type of place I’m visiting and yes I do get a little carried away and end up taking vast amounts of items with me on each outing and even more on our annual holiday.

Sometimes there’s not a great need for lots of accessories as the local inhabitants can help you out, as was the case with this photo I took a few years back Sadly I never did get the slug’s number to thank him.

Or the Ibiza Wall Lizards number for this one from a few years back either.

Sometimes you don’t need the help from the local wildlife as the outstanding scenery make the picture work.

But sometimes there’s casualties too

Weather is a great factor to how well a photo shoot can go Too much wind and before you have pressed the shoot button the minifig is on it’s side or in this case over the side

Before you ask I did get him back safe and sound and he lived to tell the tale.

Then there’s snow,

and rain.

But us Lego fan’s stick at it Even if we do need a drink or three to get us through.

Below are a few of my favorites I’ve taken I hope this brief insight into another side of what can be done with Lego has inspired you to take some of your bricks into the great outdoors.

Hi I’m Nick also known as Minifignick I love anything and everything about Lego As I child I collected the Space theme, which at the age of 11 I stupidly sold the lot to fund “more grown up things” whatever they were I can’t remember. That then was the start of my “dark age” which lasted up until a visit to Legoland with my then 5 year old son. 9 years later I’m still loving the brick and create anything from medieval banqueting halls to 1950’s Record Stores.
